Harry Huntt Ransom (November 22, 1908〔Gribben, Alan, ''Harry Huntt Ransom: Intellect in Motion.'' University of Texas Press, 2008; excerpt at http://www.utexas.edu/utpress/excerpts/exgrihar.html (accessed May 1, 2008).〕 – April 19, 1976〔Handbook of Texas Online, s.v., http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/fra59 (accessed May 1, 2008).〕) was a faculty member and administrator at the University of Texas, becoming the university's president in 1960, and ultimately served as the Chancellor of the University of Texas System from 1961 to 1971.〔 He was instrumental in founding the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center (now called the Harry Ransom Center).〔Harry Ransom Center, s.v., http://hrc.utexas.edu/about/mission/ (accessed May 1, 2008)〕 In 1978, at a cost of $2.4 million, the Center acquired a complete copy of the Gutenberg Bible.
